Investigating the Ipad 2 and it's many applications I am starting to enjoy the range of possibilities producing electronic art.  My next aim in teaching is to try and introduce the ipads/computer imagery art; to students who really enjoy this aspect of creating. I found it to be quick, instant, yet challenging.  Using this type of art tool, I find it to be very time consuming, you can sit in front of a computer/ipad and time just flys away from you.

Animals in Line

Animals in Line: a year seven project that has students using their imagination to fill in all the shapes of an animal of their choice in a variety of lines, shapes, and patterns. This assignment is one of the projects I get my year seven students to do that helps then explore the art elements - "LIINE" and "SHAPE".  They do a homework sheet first based on patterns, that help them build a bank of ideas.  Students use a .04 black felt tip fine liner to work on the lines of their patterns, a .06  to colour in any black areas or to create shadows or tone, I emphasis the variety of tonal value in their patterns.

"Doddling Mask" - Teachers example

My Teacher's examples of a "Doodling Mask":-
This mask (paper mache type) is attached to a canvas board using a strong craft glue.  Once it is dry paint the mask and board with white acrylic paint, this gives the mask and board the same whiteness.  You may need to do this several times; to get an evenness of white over the whole canvas, wait before you repaint it, remembering it is better to paint 3 thin coats of paint, than one thick uneven coat.

Once it was dry I used a range of black (.06 and .04) felt tip pens.  Armed with lots of doodle pages for inspiration, I randomly draw over the board and mask. If you look closely I used an underwater theme; a fish, turtle, shells are hidden amongst the lines and shapes of mayhem.

Watch out for your hand, rest it carefully, to avoid smudging.

Enrichment - Exhibition Entries (2011)

These examples of students art were produced as art entries to a local community art exhibition last year.  Students looked at a range of eyes (animal and birds) they chose one that they could enlarge. Students drew them on paper first, enlarging them to suit their canvas boards.

Once they had them on their boards, they outlined the eye and texture using impasto gel in a sauce bottle.  Let the Gel dry, this gave their painting an added dimension. Then they had fun with colour, firstly painting with a base colour and building their eyes with a colour scheme, realism wasnt necessarily impotant.  Thsi also gave them an opportunity to explore texture.

Abstract Animal Eyes 2011

Animal eyes: this project uses a variety of mediums.  The black pupil is painted using indian ink, the paterns/design which represents the Iris uses colour pencils, black felt tips, the outside texture uses chalk pastels.  This is the results of our students hard work.

Year 8 Art (2011) this is the first year I did this exercise, we looked at the sort of design we
